Say what you like about the silly price of cocktails in Thonglor, the silly price of box-sized condos in Phrom Phong, or the silly price of Jamón in Tops Supermarket; one thing we can all collectively agree on is that luxury hotels in Bangkok are dirt cheap.
But, exactly how cheap are we talking?
If your budget is anything north of THB 4,000, then you will be well and truly spoiled for choice in terms of five-star hotels in Bangkok. Go a little lower and you’ll find fewer five-star picks on the market – but they do exist. Here are our select five-star hotels in Bangkok for under THB 3,000 ($80) per night.
Urbana Sathorn (Sathorn)
Slap-bang in the middle of Sathorn Road, Urbana Sathorn is surrounded by many other five-star hotels that are two or three times the price. The level of glamor might not be on par with the rest, but that top rating ensures lots of amenities are thrown in, including a 25-meter rooftop pool, spa and basketball court. Plus, ALL rooms are proper suites, which means access to your very own kitchen for midnight Mama sessions after room service stops. urbanahospitality.com/urbana-sathorn
Highlights: Rooftop pool, all units are suites, prime location
Price: From THB 2,800 for a Deluxe One-Bed Suite via Booking.com.
The Sukosol Hotel (Phayathai)
Promising a distinct blend of colonial and modern style, The Sukosol is one of the few five-star hotels in Bangkok’s Phayathai area. Two stops north on the BTS from Siam and walking distance from the markets and malls at Pratunam, this central location doesn’t get much better if you’re in town to shop. The entry level rooms here aren’t huge (32m), but neither is the price. sukosolhotels.com/the-sukosol
Highlights: Fab location for shoppers, handsome colonial-esque terrace with pool
Price: THB 2,700 for a Deluxe Double/Twin Room via Booking.com
Anantara Sathorn (Sathorn)
With several properties across the southern islands priced closer to $400 than $80, Anantara Sathorn is this brand’s cheapest five-star hotel in Thailand. But still, under THB 3,000 sounds like there might be a catch. And there kind of is: Breakfast is not included, plus rooms are not at this price for much of the year. Nevertheless, it is still possible to grab a bargain. bangkok-sathorn.anantara.com
Highlights: Entry level rooms with balconies, top CBD location, spectacular bar on the rooftop
Price: THB 2,851 for a Premier Room with private balcony via Booking.com
Siamese Gioia (Phrom Phong)
Duplex alert!! The relatively unheard-of Siamese Gioia offers a range of one, two and three-bed duplex apartments in the heart of Bangkok. We managed to find midweek nights in February, March and April for a little under THB 3,000 (as this article promises), while weekends rates are just a notch above. The property is actually mixed-use between private residences and hotel units, so you may find yourself doing laps alongside the locals in the rooftop swimming pool. siameseasset.co.th
Highlights: All units have kitchens, private outside terraces, those views from the pool…
Prices: THB 2,900 for a One-Bedroom Duplex Apartment via Booking.com
Metropole The Crest Collection (Thonglor/Petchaburi Road)
One of the very cheapest five-star hotels in Bangkok you can possibly find, this newly built property has a range of rooms south of the 3k mark. Styled around a not-so-unique ‘Golden Age of Travel’ theme, the interiors here do impress without going over the top. Sat at the top of Thonglor Road, the BTS Skytrain is either a 10-minute or 1-hour drive away, depending on what time of day you leave.
Highlights: Lots of Instagram-able nooks, stumbling distance from Thonglor’s nightlife, wood surfaces are everywhere!
Price: Studio from THB 2,471 via Booking.com
Grand Sukhumvit Hotel (Nana)
A tad outdated (their description still thinks the old Suan Lum Night Bazaar still exists), this is perhaps the only five-star hotel right on Sukhumvit Road available for less than THB 3,000. That price is for the Deluxe Double, although we did manage to find one of their much larger Suites in the same price bracket (no breakfast).
Highlights: Very close to all the touristy things to do on Sukhumvit, lots of on-site dining options
Price: THB 2,521 for a Deluxe Double; THB 2,971 for a Deluxe Suite via Booking.com
